Hopping into Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the Chinese Zodiac’s new lunar calendar and is a time for celebration, renewal, and reflection. Starting January 21st, the Spring Festival will bring the Year of the Rabbit, a time of bounty, confidence, and continual forward movement. As the largest period of travel in the world, families come together to celebrate with parades, fireworks, and give families and kids lucky red envelopes stuffed with cash.

The fourth year in the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of the Rabbit features lucky numbers 3, 4, and 9, alongside lucky colors blue, pink, red, and purple. Lucky directions include northeast and southwest for wealth and east for love. Strangely, despite the standard colors of rabbits, the unlucky colors this year are brown, white, and gray.

It’s also a time when supply chain logistics can be tricky – many Chinese factories close down over the holiday period, which in turn impacts production schedules and delivery times. Retailers should prepare for the delays by ensuring they have adequate supplies and inventory on hand before the factories shut down. Fewer workers at ports and airports mean that any cargo that could get manufactured will still stall because transportation is delayed.
